The word kinesiology is derived from Greek – kinesi, meaning movement and ology meaning the study of. The science of kinesiology is relative new, It originated in the mid 1960’s, when George Goodheart, an American chiropractor, discover that muscles strength reduced when the individual being tested was exposed to as substance they were allergic to. Since its introduction, kinesiology has for dietary allergies, nutritional deficiencies, emotional imbalanced and structural faults in the body’s framework.

The simple process of muscle testing has been used in conventional medicine to test for damage. The muscle supplied by damaged nerve is weak and easily detected by physical examination. However the weak muscle that a kinesiologist is looking for are quite different. Kineology theory hold that muscles become weak because of a disruption in the body’s energy flow and electrical system.

Once the disruption is detected, the system can be reset and energy flow restored back to health with increase in muscle strength. As the circulation according the theory.

Treatment

Kinesiology can be used as treatment method as well as a diagnostic tool. When used as treatment, the muscle balancing can help improve various conditions such as back pain, muscular, tension, headaches, migraines, and other apparently unrelated problem like eczema, irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety and depression.

Visiting A Kineologist

Kinesiology does not hurt. When testing commences a limb is held out and the potential allergy-provoking substance (e.g, some cheese) is held in the patient mouth or may simply be placed in the patient’s hand. As the substance is absorbed or sensed and if the substance is the allergic culprit, the muscle strength reduces and the arm cannot resist the examiner’s down-ward force. This would be recognized as a positive test. Muscle strength would not change if the patient was not allergic to cheese. After numerous test have been carried out an elimination diet is discussed and a program of treatment planned.

Warning

Even thought kinesiology is safe and carries no risk to health, it’s not recommended as the sole diagnostic method if you have an undiagnosed problem

Recommended Book To Read

Applied Kinesiology: A Training Manual and Reference Book of Basic Principles and Practices (Paperback)
by Robert Frost

Robert Frost's AK manual is lean and to the point. It gives the history of AK, how AK is used in Europe and the USA, theory into the mechanisms of the reflexes used in AK, basic therapeutic procedures with explainations, and clear diagrams of the basic muscle tests and the appropriate reflexes. A perfect complement to the 100 hour course. I recommend this book to any student or practioner in health care who is looking to expand their skill set.
